Museum of Archaelogy

The museum charts the history of Apt and the surrounding area from the 1st century Ad to the present day.

The museum was built upon the ruins of an ancient Roman theatre, part of Apta Julia's Roman heritage along with the baths, necropoles, public buildings, forum, temple, and farms.

Roman Rooms

This part of the museum features pieces excavated from the Protohistoric oppidum of Perréal, the Roman sanctuary of Lardiers, the rural dwelling of Font Crémat, and the thermal baths of Apt. The pieces, including everyday objects such as coins, ceramics, clothing, glass, farming tools, games, crockery, and religious paraphernalia (votive objects and pieces used in funeral rites) lend fascinating insights into life in Apt over 2000 years ago.

15th/19th-century Ex-voto Room.

Boasts fifty painted ex-votos offered to Saint Anne, the patron saint of Apt, every time a wish was granted or a prayer answered.

Apt Hospital Room

Contains pieces from Apt's former hospital including faience apothecary pots and painted offering vessels.
